Your Local Climate — Methodology

How Nurture's local-climate measurements are sourced.

About this page

What this page does: Documents the data sources and refresh cadence for the Your Local Climate feature.

Who this helps: Users verifying where Local Climate readings come from.

Key data sources: EPA AQS; NASA/NOAA VIIRS via Earth Observation Atlas

Important limitations: EPA AQS reporting lag (~1 year); Nurture uses the most recent full calendar year of validated data.

Suggested next step: See the full Data Sources page

Air quality (EPA AQS)

Air quality data comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Air Quality System (AQS). Because EPA AQS reporting lags by approximately one year, Nurture queries the most recent full calendar year of validated data rather than near-real-time readings.

Light pollution (NASA/NOAA VIIRS)

Light-pollution measurements use VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) satellite data via the Earth Observation Atlas, retrieved through a server-side function so the underlying scientific dataset is queried directly.

Additional indicators

Other environmental hazards are sourced from official government and peer-reviewed scientific datasets. Nurture does not use simulated or dummy data for environmental features.
